I still remember the day we met Honey.
We were at The Warehouse in New Lynn when the owner came out and asked if she was ours. There was a small dog tied up outside who had apparently been running around the carpark for hours. She had been there for most of the day, and they had tied her up to keep her safe.
Something about her made us stop straight away.
She was calm, but you could tell she had been through a long day. We didn’t know her story yet, but we knew we couldn’t just walk away.
We offered to take her to the vet to check if she had a microchip, just to make sure she could be returned to her owner if someone was looking for her.
At the vet, she was surprisingly relaxed. Like she trusted that things were finally moving in the right direction.
But there was no microchip.
That moment changed everything.
Over the next five days, we did everything we could to find her original owner. We posted online, contacted the council, SPCA, the pound, and animal welfare services. We really wanted to make sure we were doing the right thing and giving any possible owner a chance to come forward.
But no one did.
And slowly, without planning it, she started to feel like she was already part of our lives.
We were given permission to adopt her, with the understanding that if her original owner ever came forward, she would be returned.
No one ever did.
And just like that, she stayed.
Honey settled in immediately. Like she had always been meant to be there. She follows us everywhere, has her routines, her favourite spots, and a personality that fills the whole house.
It didn’t feel like we “got a dog.” It felt like she found us at exactly the right time.
Honey changed the rhythm of our home. Walks became something we look forward to. The little everyday moments feel softer and more intentional with her around.
Honey & Hound came from that feeling.
Not from a business idea, but from the experience of loving a dog so much that you want to share that feeling with others. To create something that reflects the way dogs quietly become the centre of your world.
And that’s what Honey has done for us.
She didn’t just come into our home.
She changed it.
